From developing blogs and newsletter content, to managing social media accounts, to supporting public relations efforts, to keeping projects organized, our Coordinator/Project Manager, Kaylee Weigle, plays an important role at GRIT.

Today, Kaylee is celebrating her three-year GRIT anniversary. To celebrate, we put her in the hot seat by asking her some tough (and fun!) questions. See what she had to say!

What do you enjoy most about working at GRIT?

Kaylee: What I enjoy most about working at GRIT is the team and flexibility. Our team is supportive and makes sure to check in on each other both professionally and personally. I also like the flexible schedule and hybrid work model GRIT offers.

What has been your favorite project at GRIT?

Kaylee: My favorite project from my time at GRIT would be Art with Heart, a virtual art silent auction. This event benefited a local non-profit arts organization as well as artists impacted by the pandemic, so it was rewarding to know our efforts were directly impacting individuals in the community. Through this project I learned how to navigate GiveSmart, a bidding and fundraising management platform, so I also picked up a new skill along the way. The event had a high participation rate and was a huge success for our client!

What led you to this career?

Kaylee: I have always been a creative person, so I knew I wanted to pursue a career where I could use my out-of-the-box ideas to benefit others. Going into college undeclared, I met an advisor who recommended taking a few public relations and marketing classes. I did, and almost instantly knew that was the career path I wanted to follow. The same advisor who recommended the industry to me had a connection at GRIT and put me in contact with their public relations director. From there, I did a yearlong internship at GRIT specially focused on public relations. After graduating college, GRIT hired me full-time and since my role has evolved from public relations to other areas of marketing including content creation and project management.

What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute your success to? Why?

Kaylee: I am a perfectionist when it comes to my work. For example, if I write a blog and do not like how a paragraph reads, I will rework each sentence until I like how it sounds. Although I do not always consider this a positive trait, I do truly believe that it has allowed me to be both successful in graduate school and my career.

Who has influenced you the most when it comes to your career?

Kaylee: My very first boss, Sarah Keckler-Reynolds, has had a huge influence on my career. Over the six years I worked with her, she gave me so much advice about the industry and was always willing to help me learn new things. Plus, she is the hardest worker I know. Watching her work 12-hour days just to ensure her business was successful taught me a lot.

What is the last TV show you binged watched?

Kaylee: Big Sky on ABC.

What did you want to be when growing up?

Kaylee: A marine biologist.

Tell us one thing that is on your bucket list.

Kaylee: The number one activity on my bucket list is to swim with sea turtles because they are my favorite animal.

What one food do you wish had zero calories?

Kaylee: I wish Moe’s quesadillas had zero calories.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.

Kaylee: A lot of people are surprised when they learn I grew up hunting, fishing, and riding dirt bikes.
