Two years ago, as a college student, I walked into GRIT’s office for my first day as a public relations intern. If somebody told me then that I would end up doing a year-long internship and then get my first full-time job with GRIT, I probably would not have believed them. But, fast forward two years and that is exactly what happened.

In January of 2018, I embarked on my first internship, which was supposed to last five months. However, because I enjoyed the team, company culture and work I was doing at GRIT, I never left. Through my internship, I learned more than I would have in any college classroom. I had the opportunity to write content for multiple social media platforms. I wrote press releases and media alerts for a variety of clients in different industries. I also learned being persistent is key in this industry. I would write email pitches and receive no response. I would write a press release and have to make multiple edits. Although it seemed frustrating, and at times it still is, I learned that to have your client’s voice heard in this industry, you must be persistent!

Although I learned a lot from the hands-on projects that I was assigned, my biggest lessons came from my interviews with GRIT employees. I had the opportunity to interview the team to learn more about their role at the agency, their career path to date and have them offer me advice for my future. It was insightful, and sometimes funny, to hear everyone’s different career paths and how they ended up at GRIT. Little did I know in a few short months, I would have the same story to tell.

At the end of 2018, as I was preparing to graduate from York College of Pennsylvania, I was offered a full-time position at GRIT as a coordinator/project manager. I accepted the offer and was excited to pick up new skill sets in this new position. Fast forward to today, and I am celebrating my one-year work anniversary with GRIT, and I could not be more grateful for the experience and knowledge I have gained.

Over the past year, my biggest area of growth would be in digital marketing. I have worked along side our digital marketing team to learn how to write ad copy, pull reporting, update landing pages, and even use platforms such as Pardot and Campaign Monitor to schedule and send out newsletters and social media posts. I have also had the opportunity to do industry research and make contributions to strategic marketing plans, which is one of my favorite projects because I love being able to get creative with social media, community engagement, and public relations ideas!

I cannot say enough positive things about my experience with GRIT over the past two years as I transitioned from an intern to full-time employee. There is still so much I can learn, and I know I will have those opportunities to expand my knowledge at GRIT!

At GRIT, our team always comes first. We care a lot about each other, our work and our clients. Are you interested in learning more about a career with GRIT? Send your resume and cover letter to [email protected].
