“The GRIT team did a very successful job of promoting a once-in-a-lifetime event!
World-renowned playwright Ken Ludwig came back to his hometown to celebrate the opening of The Belmont Theatre’s 94th season with the presentation of his play about his parents, Dear Jack, Dear Louise. No other theatre can present this show on the same stage where his mother performed and where he developed his love of theatre. We were thrilled to have a full house share this monumental occasion and appreciate the success of Ken Ludwig and the historical significance of The Belmont Theater!"

Bringing a Landmark Theatre Experience into the Spotlight
The Belmont Theatre opened its 94th season with a celebration that brought together an award-winning playwright’s personal history, local pride, and the magic of live theatre.
Ken Ludwig’s Dear Jack, Dear Louise was inspired by the real-life wartime courtship of the internationally acclaimed playwright’s parents. Its presentation at The Belmont to raise the curtain on a special new season held particular significance: Ludwig is a York native whose mother once danced on The Belmont stage, and he has credited his childhood experiences at the theatre with inspiring his passion for storytelling.
With Ludwig returning to York to attend the production, the season opener offered a rare opportunity to celebrate these connections. GRIT was honored to collaborate with The Belmont to develop and execute a marketing and promotional strategy that captured the event’s historic significance, built excitement, and encouraged audiences to be part of the occasion.
Building the Story Behind the Celebration
GRIT helped The Belmont establish the messaging and visual direction for promoting Ken Ludwig’s Dear Jack, Dear Louise, bringing together the play’s heartfelt story, Ludwig’s local connections, and the experiences planned for opening weekend.
The resulting creative captured the production’s warmth and nostalgia while connecting one of York’s historic cultural institutions with a playwright whose earliest theatrical inspiration began within its walls.
Extending the Promotion Across Channels
GRIT also supported regional media outreach and provided a social media framework that The Belmont’s internal team used to build anticipation and share event details.
Together, the messaging, creative development, digital advertising, media outreach, and social planning helped set the stage for a memorable opening to The Belmont’s 94th season—one that welcomed Ken Ludwig back to a theatre that played an important role in his own story.
