Building Community Excitement for Riverfest 2026

Three days of history, recreation, and discovery. One spectacular finale along the Susquehanna. Riverfest 2026 brought together river communities in York and Lancaster counties for a weekend of activities celebrating the region’s heritage and America’s 250th anniversary. The weekend culminated in the illumination of all 26 historic Columbia-Wrightsville bridge piers, creating a memorable connection between the region’s past and this milestone celebration.

Susquehanna National Heritage Area (SNHA) partnered with GRIT for targeted marketing support to help raise visibility, encourage attendance, and promote the Burning Bridge VIP Party at John Wright Restaurant. Working closely with the SNHA team, we combined email, organic social media, and targeted regional public relations support to bring the weekend’s many experiences into view.

Bringing the Weekend into Focus

With historic sites, river adventures, community partners, and special events to showcase, Riverfest offered plenty to explore. Coordinated promotion helped prospective attendees discover the possibilities and plan their weekend.

GRIT developed messaging that balanced inspiration with practical information: what to see, where to go, and how to participate. Sponsor recognition and partner spotlights connected the celebration to the organizations helping make it possible.

Building Anticipation Through Email

A series of dedicated Riverfest emails introduced the weekend, highlighted activities, and brought planning details together as the event approached. Clear calls to action guided readers toward schedules, activity information, and ticket reservations.

A follow-up email extended the celebration with a thank-you to attendees and sponsors, along with invitations to keep exploring the region. Across the four dedicated emails, reported open rates averaged approximately 45%.

Keeping the Conversation Flowing on Social

From topic planning and copywriting to branded visual content, GRIT supported a varied organic social campaign before, during, and after Riverfest. Activity spotlights, FAQs, sponsor recognition, and timely reminders gave audiences reasons to engage and make plans. Partner tags helped connect the content to the wider river community, while event-weekend posts kept the celebration visible as it unfolded.

A Celebration Worth Sharing

Targeted outreach to local media highlighted Riverfest’s activities and historic significance, inviting interviews with the SNHA team. Standout Facebook posts generated more than 100,000 views each, and the ticketed Burning Bridge VIP Party at John Wright Restaurant sold out ahead of the event.

With marketing support shaped around SNHA’s needs, GRIT helped build excitement, guide event planning, and invite the community to be part of a milestone Riverfest.
