This past spring, I was a marketing major in search of a summer internship. I had heard about GRIT Marketing Group and emailed asking if an intern opportunity existed. Julie, President of GRIT, emailed me back and said GRIT was looking for a public relations intern for the summer. Although I knew little about PR, I decided to interview anyway and I’m so glad I did!
During my junior year, I was a marketing intern for a small start-up in Philadelphia. This was a great experience but I wanted to explore the agency side of marketing to continue learning. Now, after experiencing what it’s like to do marketing and PR “in-house” versus in an agency setting, I’m certain the agency track is the way for me!
Why? Agency life is fast-paced, and different every day. Instead of working on projects for one company, I’ve had the chance to work for multiple companies and differing projects, usually in one day. If you like a constant change of pace, you should consider interning for an agency!
Like I mentioned above, before interning with GRIT my focus was in marketing. However, after diving into the world of public relations this summer, I’m equally as interested. My biggest goal for my internship was to learn. Thanks to the entire GRIT team, I have learned how to draft monthly social media content, create media recap reports, calculate media values, and write press releases, media pitches, blogs, and letters to the editor.
I’ve also discovered how fun office life can be! Cubicles get a bad rap…or maybe this is just a really exciting company! I’m happy to say I’ve laughed a lot this summer and have learned from each of the experts here at GRIT. This isn’t something that many interns can say!
Thank you GRIT team for such an amazing internship experience, I couldn’t be more grateful!
